Description:
Silk waistcoat (reproduction) with double collar and lapels, 2 placket pockets and 5 metal buttons at the stomach; front of waistcoat is made of green brocade with floral and leaf garland swags, creating imbricated pattern; back has copper-colored silk, with 2 straps at the waist with rectangular metal buckle, with vertical chape and double tongue; inside lined with white silk.
Gallery Label:
This waistcoat is a reproduction of a waistcoat worn by Albert Gallatin (1761-1849), stateman and once acting president of the New-York Historical Society. It was worn by his descendent, Albert E. Gallatin in the re-enactment of the signing of the Treaty of Ghent, in which the elder Gallatin particpated.
