Description:
Engraved scrimshaw Sperm whale's tooth; engraved with black ink on the obverse with a profile of a frigate sailing and sailors cutting in, on the reverse is a score of whalers hunting whales with one capsizing a small fishing vessel.
Gallery Label:
According to Stuart Frank, this image depicts a 'waif' flag left on carcass for ship to later pick-up. U.S. flag on one vessel, and cutting in dead whale is lashed to side.
