The subject was the son of Alexander Robertson of New York and the brother of Helen Robertson (Mrs. John R. B. Rodgers). This portrait hung for many years in the dining room of the John Bayard Rodgers Verplanck home, Spookfield, at Fishkill on the Hudson River.
