Description:
Mahogany writing desk with brass hardware and red stamped and gilded writing surface; pair of glass ink bottles, and drawer that slides open after pin is removed from left side.
Gallery Label:
According to accession records, this writing desk belonged to the Hawley family. It may have been used by Charles Hawley (1792-1866), grandfather of the donor. Charles Hawley was a member of the Connecticut state legislature from 1838 to 1842, as well as lieutenant governor.
