Family Ties in the Deep South with the Author of "Sisters and Rebels"

46 minutes

Program date: October 9, 2020
Explore a fascinating intersection of the personal and political with author Jacquelyn Dowd Hall as she discusses her book, Sisters and Rebels: A Struggle for the Soul of America, a triple biography of three sisters, in conversation with historian Carol Berkin. Born in Georgia in the late 19th century, the Lumpkins were descended from slaveholders and steeped in a culture of white supremacy. But their lives took on wildly different trajectories when the younger two moved away and embraced progressive ideals of equality and civil rights.
