Fairy tale and nursery rhyme games were a popular form of entertainment with the youngest board game players. Jack the Giant Killer is based on the classic fairy tale set during the time of King Arthur, when fearsome giants roamed the lands. The idea of the little man defeating the big one was popular in a nation committed to democratic championing of underdogs.
