Description:
Edward Harris accompanied Audubon on trips to the Gulf coast and the Missouri River, and was a patron of his early work. Audubon named this bird the Louisiana Hawk, and honored Harris in the Latin name, Falco harrisii. Although no longer the modern taxonomic designation, the modern name Harris' Hawk perpetuates Audubon's original intention.
