Dear Friends,
We invite you to JOIN OUR REVOLUTION! as we reopen the doors of our landmark building on Central Park West with brand-new exhibitions; the beautifully renovated Robert H. and Clarice Smith New York Gallery of American History, in which the story of New York's critical contribution to the founding of our nation is told through a wonderful new permanent installation; our new DiMenna Children's History Museum and Barbara K. Lipman Children's History Library, which promises serious fun for children and families; our spectacularly-renovated Robert H. Smith Auditorium, which will become home to the acclaimed Bernard and Irene Schwartz Distinguished Speakers Series; and our new multimedia orientation film, New York Story, narrated by New York’s own Liev Schreiber. For our November 16 program featuring biographer Susan Hertog and her new book on Rebecca West and Dorothy Thompson there will be a special tasting from Caffè Storico, a new fine-dining restaurant by Stephen Starr. Our revolution begins on November 11. We thank NYC Media for celebrating and partnering with us in a countdown to our reopening with NYC Facts featuring the staff of the New-York Historical Society answering captivating questions about the city’s fascinating and unique history now and which are now airing on Taxi TV. Don’t miss the stunning window at Bergdorf Goodman on 5th Avenue between 57th and 58th streets, which celebrates our reopening with 35 portraits reproduced from our collection, on view for the next two weeks. We look forward to seeing you on November 11 at one of our many celebratory opening day activities. Tune in to Jeopardy! on Monday, Nov. 7 and celebrate our revolution by testing your knowledge of American history.
