Gallery Label: 
This plate was donated by the granddaughter of the decorator, Edward Lycett. The Sèvres date mark on the plate is slashed to indicate a factory reject. It was common for American decorators to use French blanks. Lycett was a pioneer of China painting in America. Born and trained in England, he worked in New York City at Greene Streeet Kilns and and at Faience Manufacturing Co. in Brooklyn starting in 1884. After the Civil War, he trained many women in the art of china decorating.

Molded whiteware cup with appendages in low relief and decorated with printed floral decals in brown and hand-painted violet, blue, pink, yellow with feathered golden edges and painted stylized leaves and geometric motifs near the appendages.Molded whiteware covered slop pot, covered commode (or change pot), basin, large and small pitcher, jar, cup, and three piece soap dish with handles, appendages in low relief and decorated with printed floral decals in brown and hand-painted violet, blue, pink, yellow with feathered golden edges and painted stylized leaves and geometric motifs near the appendages.
