Description:
Porcelain pitcher molded into the head and body (from below the waist up) of Theodore Roosevelt grinning from behind a moustache and spectacles, wearing a red bandanna and belted khaki shirt, toting a red book titled "Africa" and a rifle; handle formed of an elephant's head and trunk. All handpainted with overglaze enamels.

This toby jug, made by Lenox after the design of Edward Penfield, was issued at the close of Roosevelt's last term of office when he was about to set forth on a big game hunting expedition into Africa. More likely, it dates after his trip and the publication of his book " African Game Trails" (1910).

Porcelain cup and saucer with gold bands, flowers, and ferns; saucer decoration also contains four flowers with blue petals; the cup's decoration depicts bunches of roses and other flowers between gold fern swags; the flowers on the cup are hand painted in pink, blue, green, purple, red, and brown; the cup has a scrolled handle with medallion of a molded lion's head at rim.
