This beaver hat was worn by Hon. Caleb S. Woodhull (1792-1866), Mayor of New York City from 1849 to 1851. Mayor Woodhull was the grandfather of the donor. It is labeled by the hatter Stephen Drake, who was located at 725 Broadway in 1865.
