Maple daybed with adjustable back made of pine; with carved crest rail with interlaced Flemish "C" scrolls and five short molded bannisters between vase-and-ring-turned stiles with acorn finials; rush seat woven with diamond pattern; eight ring-and-ball turned legs with ball feet joined by double-reel-and-ball-turned stretchers at front, back, and lower end; plain, round medial stretchers and plain, round stretcher at upper end.

According to the accession records, this daybed was found in eastern Pennsylvania. Benjamin Ginsberg, who appraised the object in 1951, believed that it dated from the early eighteenth century and that its rush seat was original. Specialists who have examined the object more recently suggest that its parts belong to different periods. The back, for example, is probably late nineteenth-century; other parts may have been made earlier.

Mahogany slant-front desk on cupboard; hinged top with painted linen-lined writing surface over shallow rectangular compartment with molded base atop a rectangular cupboard with center cabinet with two doors flanked on either side by one drawer above a narrow cabinet with one door; doors and sides of cupboard with panel and frame construction (panels have wide beveled border, and front corners of cupboard are chamfered); each side section of cupboard raised on four bracket feet.

Mahogany desk with attic with gallery decorated with applied panels centering a carved rosette; cylinder top rolls back to reveal interior with central cupboard flanked by four pigeon holes above two drawers on each side, with cupboard and drawer fronts and pigeon hole spandrels decorated with figured wood veneer; writing surface, which slides forward, has an additional tier of five drawers in back, is lined with green textile, and has molded and indented front edge; shaped apron below with two-door cupboard with shelves located behind kneehole; pedestals with molded rectangular panels on inner and outer sides, one with four drawers and one with a single drawer above a cupboard door, also with molded panel; drawers and top with carved wooden handles with shell and scroll motif; pedestal bases indented in front.
