Wooden Eastlake style stand with incised decoration with gilding; square top with semi-circular extensions on two opposing sides and baldachin skirt; supported on trestle base with sloping sides joined by shaped apron panels and a turned stretcher; trestle supported on four carved, planar paw feet that descend from corner moldings.

Mahogany Federal-style banjo clock; circular painted dial plate with Roman numerals with conforming circular mahogany hood with gilded metal eagle finial; tapered waist with eglomisé panel with polychrome scrollwork and applied pierced brass side arms; rectangular base with eglomisé panel with view of Mount Vernon; beneath are nine balls and a fan-shaped fluted plinth with acron pendant; pendulum missing.

This object was once part of the folk art collection of Elie Nadelman (1882-1946), the avant-garde sculptor. This French Empire table emulates a style similar to furniture made in New York by French émigré cabinetmaker Charles-Honoré Lannuier (1779-1819). When Robert R. Livingston returned to the Hudson Valley after his tenure in Paris, he took with him a passion for French furniture and design, and decorated his estate with the spoils of his journey. This pier table may have resided in the dining room at Clermont, along with other elegant French furnishings.
