Cast silver and wooden trowel with a tapered, cylindrical wooden handle with a silver tip, tapered cylindrical handle socket and a bent stem with a circular joint; triangular blade engraved, "SOUVENIR OF THE/ LAYING OF THE/ CORNER STONE/ OF THE/ EQUITABLE BUILDING/ NEW YORK CITY/ BY/ HON. JOHN/ PURROY/ MITCHEL, MAYOR/ APRIL/ 29,/ 1914" in roman letters; maker's marks stmped on the underside of the handle.
