George Hunt Pendleton was a lawyer and congressman from Ohio. He served as a U.S. representative from Ohio from 1857 to 1865. In 1864, he ran for vice-president on the Democratic ticket with George B. McClellan. He sponsored the "Ohio idea" to pay U.S. bonds in greenbacks and ran on this platform for U.S. president in 1867.
