Description: 
Leather (probably lambskin) Masonic apron with a V-shaped flap at the top with a tooled eye in the center, sides flaring towards the bottom with rounded corners, two rows of blue running stitch around all edges, remnants of ties at the top corners on both sides; tooled Masonic symbols barely visible, in the center, the compass and square, the sun and moon on top of columns on left and right sides, a skeleton key, a trowel and a pyramid.

This U.S. flag hung over the apartments of John Austin Stevens at No. 4 Rue Glück, Paris during the entire Siege of Commune, 1870-1871. During the Siege Mr. Stevens and his family were in Normandy. During the Commune the family occupied the apartment on rue Glück which had a clear view through the trees to the Grand Opera House. Bullets were shot into the apartment.
