These buttons were excavated on June 4, 1922 by the Field Exploration Committee from a refuse pit outside the south ramparts of Fort Washington. Built by the Continental Army in the summer of 1776, the fort extended west along 183rd Street from Fort Washington Avenue to Pinehurst Avenue. The fort was captured on November 16, 1776 by British and Hessian forces, and was occupied by them until 1783. Four of the buttons were probably worn on coats belonging to British or Hessian soldiers.

Iron pothook excavated at the British military camp on the Dyckman farm in Washington Heights, Manhattan; two large, flat strips of iron that have been nailed together and bent in half.

This pothook was excavated on September 8, 1918 by the Field Exploration Committee at the British camp on the Dyckman farm, which extended between Seaman and Payson Avenues and 204th Street in Washington Heights. British soldiers made the hook by bending iron barrel hoops, and then hung the hook from the wall of their hut.
