These cranial fragments were excavated by Reginald P. Bolton and others from a trench at Fort Washington Avenue and 181st Street, near military barracks that extended along Bennett Avenue between 181st and 182nd Streets. Built after the surrender of Fort Washington by American forces on November 16, 1776, the barracks were occupied by the British and Hessian garrisons of the fort until evacuation in 1783.

This shell was found in 1915 by boys digging a trench on the site of Fort Independence. Built by the Continental Army in the summer of 1776, Fort Independence was part of a chain of eight American forts north and east of the Harlem River that commanded the northern approaches to Manhattan. The shell was part of a large stash of artillery ammunition that was buried in November, 1776 by the fort's retreating garrison in anticipation of a looming British assault.

This cannonball was found by Reginald P. Bolton and others in Washington Heights, Manhattan. They may have found the cannonball at Fort George, a British fort at 192nd Street between Audobon and Amsterdam Avenues. Built in 1781, the fort was occupied by British and Hessian troops until evacuation in 1783.
