Gen. Winfield Scott (1786-1866), pictured on this ribbon, fought in the War of 1812, the Indian Wars and the mexican War. During the War of 1812, U.S. troops attempted to engage the British on the U.S./Canadian border. In the Battle of Lundy's Lane (near Niagara Falls) Scott's troops were defeated by the British. His campaigns in the Mexican War were more successful. In the most decisive campaign of that war, he led 14,000 men from Veracruz to Mexico City and captured the capital.

Description: 
Handkerchief holder with chain and ring attached; two sides in ridged fan-like design attached at top; round loop at the top of the clip with a smaller loop to which chain is linked; round moveable loop to move up and down cylindrical part to open and close clip. Copper chain is made up of oval links and is attached to a link on the smooth copper ring; "JL" inscribed on inside of ring.
