According to accession records, this dolls' house was modelled after a brownstone on East 64th Street. The house was still standing in 1982, but the top story, which housed the maid's quarters, had been eliminated. Carl Von Drihle, the maker of the doll house, was no longer alive in 1982.

Pigs in Clover, the first popular dexterity game in America, challenged players to manipulate marbles (pigs) into the central circle (the pigpen) by carefully rotating and tilting the game. In the last half of the 19th century, educators such as Friedrich Froebel, Maria Montessori and John Dewey began to explore theories of child learning that emphasized practical experience and manual skills.
