This object was once part of the folk art collection of Elie Nadelman (1882-1946), the avant-garde sculptor. From 1924 to 1934, Nadelman's collection was displayed in his Museum of Folk Arts, located in the Riverdale section of the Bronx. The Historical Society purchased Nadelman's entire collection in 1937.

Doll with head made of stockinet stretched over papier-mâché base, and painted with oil colors; molded and painted facial features include brown eyes (with white dot on pupil), closed mouth, and pink tinted cheeks; stuffed cloth body with complete arm, painted lower arm, fingers defined by stitching, separate thumb, divided leg with painted lower leg, toes formed by stitching; black satin dress with brightly colored embroidered flowers, inset front panel with wide bands of white, also embroidered, pleated hem; multiple petticoats with lace trim; black silk shoes.
