All aboard the Holiday Express! Stop by the New-York Historical Society this vacation week to marvel at the toys and trains of the Jerni Collection and go on a special Holiday Express “I Spy” Scavenger Hunt. Kids and adults alike will delight in finding the treasures hidden amongst the mountains, tunnels, and bridges of the exhibition. Families can also enjoy a beloved train tale being read aloud and make a train-themed craft to take home as a souvenir from the day!

How can one girl start a completely new life in harsh terrain, in the midst of a foreign war? Author Kirby Larson will join us to discuss her Newbery honor winning book, homesteading in the early 1900s, and the impact of WWI on American society. We’ll also see examples of WWI propaganda posters and real letters from WWI soldiers from our library’s vast collections.
Free with Museum admission. Recommended for ages 3-6.
This weekend bring the family to search for their favorite toy trains with a scavenger hunt, decorate a car for the Transcontinental Railroad, and move and laugh with “Conductor Abe!”
