In honor of our new exhibition World War I Beyond the Trenches, we’re commemorating the 100th anniversary of America’s official entry into the First World War by bringing New York in 1917 to life! Every Saturday, stop by the Museum to meet different personalities portrayed by living historians from the home- and warfronts of the United States a century ago. Each week is different—you might discover the uniforms of army doughboys, run into a famous leader, or march with suffragists!
On Saturday, July 9, join soldiers from WWI in saluting the commander of the American Expeditionary Forces! General John J. Pershing, portrayed by Living Historian David Shuey of History Teller Productions will share stories about his life before and during the Great War. You can also check out tools he used to run the army—like a compass, telephone, and maps—and meet other troops portrayed by Living Historians!
