EVENT DETAILS

In conjunction with our major exhibition Harry Potter: A History of Magic, legendary narrator, Tony Award-winning actor, comedian, and director Jim Dale presents an evening of “segments” related to his Harry Potter audiobooks, discusses  how he created the voices for more than 200 characters, recounts his hilarious first day experience in the audiobook recording studio, shares excerpts from his Drama Desk Award-winning show, Just Jim Dale, and remembers his disastrous experiences playing the many clowns of Shakespeare.

Jim Dale, MBE* narrated all seven of the Harry Potter books, winning a record 10 Audie Awards—the Oscars of the narrating world—two Grammy Awards and seven Grammy nominations. He won Narrator of the Year in 2001, 2005, 2007, and 2008 and won the Audiobook of the Year Award in 2004. He has held two Guinness World Records throughout his career. His first was for creating 134 different character voices for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, which he then broke with 147 different voices for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. He held the top six places in Amazon’s Best-Selling Audiobooks of America, a feat that earned him his second title, which he still holds, for the most positions held in an audiobook chart worldwide.

*Member of the Order of the British Empire. Awarded by Queen Elizabeth II for his contribution to English literature.
