In collaboration with the New-York Historical Society and Oxford University Press, the Bryant Park Reading Room presents a series of free lectures to stimulate your mind on popular topics including biography, Civil War history, and more.

John Wilkes Booth forever changed the course of history with a single shot the evening of April 14, 1865, shocking a weary nation that was emerging from the chaos and calamity of the Civil War. Drawing from family records and extensive archival research, historian Terry Alford provides a comprehensive portrait of this enigmatic figure whose life has been defined by his infamous act: the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln.

Terry Alford is the author of Fortune’s Fool: The Life of John Wilkes Booth and a founding board member of the Abraham Lincoln Institute in Washington, D.C.

LOCATION

This program will be held at the Reading Room in Bryant Park. The Reading Room is located on the 42nd Street side of the park between 5th and 6th Avenues. Look for the burgundy and white umbrellas.
