Food has appeared in art for centuries, and food that is made and presented artistically is all the rage today. In this program, participants will visit the galleries to see how food and art collided in the 19th and 20th centuries. Then our group will move to the classrooms to experiment with molecular gastronomy, a new and highly artistic way of approaching food. Want to learn how to make carrot "caviar" and gelified noodles? Well you will!
Ages 8 and up, $16 per person ($10 per Member). Adults and children must purchase tickets to participate.

Sarah Lohman is an "historical gastronomist" featured on William Grimes' show Appetite City (NYC life, channel 25). She is currently an educator at the Lower East Side Tenement Museum and develops food-based programs for cultural institutions around New York City. This is a series of five deep-dive, family programs on New York City's food history inspired by N-YHS collections. In each two-hour program, families learn about historical food traditions and then cook from historical recipes, often using kitchen tools from the past.
