Did you know that Memorial Day was first celebrated in recognition of the American Civil War? At the time, it was known as Decoration Day and individually observed by decorating the graves of fallen soldiers. Local communities held their own types of tributes earlier, but it was nationally proclaimed by an organization of Civil War veterans in 1868.

Join us in commemorating the 150th anniversary of the holiday with Living Historians from Company H, 119th New York State Volunteer Infantry and the 69th New York State Volunteers Historical Association, troops of Civil War reenactors. Discover 19th-century military uniforms, learn a military drill, or explore some of their fascinating gear up close.
