Did you know that Harriet Tubman relied on a station on the Underground Railroad that was located right here in New York City? On May 12 and 13, 1856, ‘Captain’ Tubman (as she was known by some abolitionists) travelled to the city with four fugitive, enslaved people whom she had rescued.

Portrayed by our trained Living Historians, Harriet Tubman and her associates will be stationed at the Museum to answer questions about how they used the Underground Railroad to free themselves. Discover the tales, tools, and techniques of how Tubman and many self-liberated people of African descent evaded capture and found their way north.
