Join us on Sunday for a close look at the origins of the holiday that commemorates the end of slavery. On June 19, 1865, military orders to free enslaved people were finally, officially enforced in Texas—two months after the end of the American Civil War and two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Discover how this new emancipation day was celebrated by meeting living historians who bring the mid-19th century to life with historical clothing, activities, and stories!
