Join us any day this weekend to remember the service of veterans past and present! In conjunction with Black Citizenship in the Age of Jim Crow, meet soldiers and citizens from different wars portrayed by Living Historians—including members of a unique African American regiment each day.
On Saturday, look back at the military service of African Americans in the Civil War. Meet Living Historians from the 6th United States Colored Troops, a Civil War reenacting troop, and learn how their contributions to a Union victory helped bring about the passage of the Fourteenth Amendment 150 years ago. They will be stationed in the Museum—stop by to investigate their 19th-century uniforms, explore a soldier’s tools and equipment, and even learn a military drill!
Want to follow the evolution of black citizenship into the 20th century? Return on Sunday and Monday to meet Living Historians bringing to life experiences from the First and Second World Wars.
