EVENT DETAILS
In collaboration with the New-York Historical Society and Oxford University Press, the Bryant Park Reading Room presents a series of free lectures to stimulate your mind on popular topics including biography, Civil War history, and more.
As the son of George Washington’s famous eulogist and the son-in-law of Washington’s adopted child, Robert E. Lee was a living embodiment of the Founding Father's legacy. Both Northerners and Southerners alike sought his service for high command, but ultimately Lee sided with the South and went to war against the very union that Washington had forged. Author Jonathan Horn follows Lee through married life, military glory, and misfortune to offer an in-depth portrait of this complicated and compelling leader.
Jonathan Horn, a former White House presidential speechwriter, is the author of The Man Who Would Not Be Washington: Robert E. Lee's Civil War and His Decision That Changed American History.
