Kids and adults will come together for an engaged look at how organizations in the Civil Rights Movement communicated their values, methods, and goals. From Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. to Eldridge Cleaver, this special family tour will examine the tactics represented in the exhibitions Freedom Journey 1965: Photographs of the Selma to Montgomery March by Stephen Somerstein and Art as Activism. This program will help place the current conversations about civil rights in a historical context, as well as highlight the changes in the movement during the mid-20th century.  

This is a fantastic program for families with older children versed in the life and philosophy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who want to dig deeper into the decades following his 1968 assassination. A note: this gallery conversation will include the discussion of armed struggle and the role of violence in Civil Rights Movements.
