Join us this week to celebrate the life and accomplishments of pro tennis player and activist Arthur Ashe on the 75th anniversary of his birth. During his career, he won three Grand Slam titles and was the first African American player selected for the United States Davis Cup team—as well as the only black man to ever win the singles title at Wimbledon, the US Open, and the Australian Open. After retiring, Ashe was diagnosed with HIV and became an activist for HIV and AIDS education. He founded the Arthur Ashe Foundation for the Defeat of AIDS and the Arthur Ashe Institute for Urban Health.
During this special story time, families will learn about Ashe’s legacy through discussion and photographs. We will read Tennis, Anyone? and children will create a tennis themed craft to take home.
