Join us for two new batches of tales performed by master storyteller Jonathan Kruk! Be regaled by stories of how 19th-century magicians appeared (and disappeared!), sparked controversy, and drew record crowds and wealthy patrons. Stick around to learn about some of the 21 ‘spiritualists’ listed in an 1861 city directory during a time when séances and ghosts were in vogue. Don’t be startled, though! You’ll also learn some of the tricks and cons behind these conjurors’ illusions.
This summer, New York’s magical past comes to life every weekend from June 23 – August 26! Meet magicians, escape artists, fortune-tellers, and more marvelous illusionists from the past—all brought to life by Living Historians from the present. Check out our Family Calendar every week to discover each program’s special theme as it’s announced!
