This woman's hand fan is made of paper and has a wood handle. One side is printed to resemble an accordian folded flag toy in red, white and blue with the names of 48 states with the "Philippines, Porto Rico, Hawaii", listed at the end. This side reads "Liberty and Union/ One and Inseparable/ Now and Forever". On the reverse is a print of a large department store with descriptions of products and departments and the words "A.D. Matthews' Sons". The fan includes instructions to focus the eye on the center while moving the fan in circles to create an optical illusion of motion.
