Description:
Cylindrical porcelain vase with flaring lip decorated with blue enamel band and gold stars and dotted blue wavy lines around rim; painted on one side with polychrome pseudo arms of New York State with a gilt floral center, blue robed liberty and green robed justice; the other side depicts a sepia American eagle with gilded floral shield.

Description:
Porcelain tea bowl and saucer; both forms include wide blue enamelled band border with gild grapevine; secondary blue beaded border; enamelled psuedo arms of New York State appear twice on tea bowl and at center of plate, figures of the Statue of Liberty and justice flanking shield with scrolled border standing on banner with motto surmounted by an eagle.

Gallery Label:
Andrew Stevenson was one of the first English potters to transfer print American scenes onto pottery. He based some of his designs on views painted by William Guy Wall and engraved by John Hill in the Hudson River Portfolio. This view contrasts pastoral Brooklyn with the urban bustle of lower Manhattan. In the foreground is Red Hook, with the windmill and warehouses of Pierrepont's gin distillery to the right and Cornell's millpond at center.
