Description:
Dark green, non-lead glass bottle blown in a full-sized three-part mold (McKearin GI-99) embossed with a portrait bust of Jenny Lind within a wreath with the inscription, "JENNY LIND" on the obverse with a two-story building with a central chimney with the inscription "GLASS WORKS S. HUFFSEY" on the reverse; bottle is calabash-shaped with a an applied and tooled collar and a blow-pipe mark on the base.

Gallery Label:
Jenny Lind (1820-1887), the "Swedish Nightingale," was a soprano who toured America in 1850-1852 under the auspices of P.T. Barnum. Noted for her singing and her piety and charity, Lind was incredibly popular in America. Samuel Huffsey was a Philadelphia glass dealer between 1851 and 1857. The bottle may have been made at the Millford Glass Works, Millford NJ (of which Huffsey may have been an owner) or at the New Brooklyn Glass Works or the Isabella Glass Works in New Jersey.

Blue pressed lead glass cup plate; circular form with scalloped edge; narrow curved rim and flat circular well; in well, American eagle with shield on breast, with wings spread and head raised to left, with border of cross-hatched concentric rings interrupted by stars, sprigs to each side of date "1831"; on interior rim, pattern of medallions, fleur-de-lis, and leaves, with cross-hatched background; also on interior rim, sprigs along edge of well, and below date (Lee-Rose 661).
