Description:
Pair of silver frame shoe buckles set with oval paste gems radiating out from the inside edge of the frame; hinged chape and tongue at the center covered with black velvet; case is wooden covered with dark brown leather, the lid is arched and hinged to the box at the back, metal latch at the front, lined on the inside with white satin, cardboard divider creates separate compartments for each buckle.

Gold mourning brooch with stick pin; pin has beveled glass oculus with brown and white hair worked in a Turk's knot beneath, in gold frame in the form of a buckled belt decorated with black enamel diamonds, hinged pin and hook on reverse, with inscription; chain on hinge side of reverse suspending stick pin with round ball on top, 4-sided pin twisted in spirals at the center.

Description:
Brooch and earrings set in box; hinged pin brooch and wire hook earrings have identical pattern, beaded rings of slightly mounded gold with coral flower at the center, suspending scroll hanger with three pendular fleur de lis designs with small beads of coral at the tip; housed in white cardboard box with green trim around the edges (probably not original), jeweler's label top center of lid, lined with cotton.

These shoe buckles belonged to David Grim (1737-1826), New York merchant and antiquarian. He was born in Zweibrücken, Bavaria, and moved to New York with his parents while an infant. From 1767-1789 he was proprietor of the Hessian's Coffee House, first on Chapel Street, then on William Street. It was a popular place for German immigrants to congregate. Grim was president of the German Society of the City of New York. After 1789 he became a merchant. He married Mary Barwick in 1781.
