Gold pocket watch with wooden case; watch has foliate engraving on bezel, oval pendant knob and round bow; geometric design on reverse; glass facing; gold dial with foliate border made from other metals; roman numeral hours and minute markings; steel moon hour and minute hands; second aperture at VI with second hand and markings; enamel inscription on movement casing. Wooden watch case is rectangular with lighter wood bordering; keyhole and latch; circular opening at top of case to serve as watch stand; red velvet interior with spatial divisions for multiple pieces of jewelry; cut-out mold on top section to hold watch.

Copper pocket watch with chain attached; white enamel dial with roman numeral hours and minute markings; quarter hours marked in arabic numerals; hour and minute hands; hole to wind on dial; unornamented copper casing; round post attached to flat pivot and stirrup bow. Copper chain attached to bow: hook screwed to clasp and loop, attaching series of 5 rings and 5 rectangular locks. Yellow leather bag found in box, but not fitted to watch.

Silver pocket watch in silver case with three watch papers: watch has movement hinged into a fitted silver casing with glass face; white enamel dial with black roman and arabic numerals for hours and minute markings; hour hand; long cylindrical pendant knob with stirrup bow; filigree balance cock and foot; numbered aperture on movement; hole for winding in back. Silver casing molded to hold watch; holds three watch papers in the base.

This watch was bought in Edinburg, Scotland by Mr. Rintoul before 1818. In about 1830 he gave it to his son, Robert Rintoul. He came to America in 1846, bringing the watch with him. In 1865 he gave it to his daughter Mrs. Cecilia Simpson. It has ever since been in the Simpson family. The watch papers inside of the case were placed there by jewelers when the warch was repaired.
