Description:
Silver pocket watch with geometric design on black background on casing; circular glass face on casing; glass dial facing, covering white enamel dial; black roman numeral hours with arabic numeral minute markings; hour and minute hands; winding pendant knob with round bow. Bimetallic clasp attached to bow; clasp has foliate links with long flat attachement at the back. Black leather and wood case with bold border; hinges and latch broken; black velvet interior with cut out to hold watch; red satin on the interior as well.

Pocket watch with two keys, ribbon and glass stamp attached to chain; watch has smooth case, with engraving on front of house, trees, land within a rectangular border; oval pendant knob with round bow; back casing opens to reveal engraved movement case; front casing opens to bezel and glass face; white enamel dial with black roman numeral hours and minute markings; steel moon hour and minute hands; seconds aperture with numbers and poker hand at VI; a chain with two keys and a black ribbon is attached to the bow of the watch; one key is bimetallic with foliate loop at the top; one key, also engraved, has clear glass inserted at one end; a triangular prism, cut clear glass stamp is attached to a metal loop at the end of the ribbon.

This watch was formerly owned by Maximilian (1832-1867), Emperor of Mexico, 1863-1867, second son of Archduke Francis Charles of Austria. He gave it to the Captain of the guard just before he was taken out for execution in 1867. A Mr. Yaeger acquired it in Laredo, TX before the end of the 19th century. He gave it to his daughter Anita who gave it to Mr. Heath Steele in February 1949.
