Oval needlework picture in various colors silk floss, chenille and paint on horizontal rectangular silk ground, depicts a pastoral scene of a female child in raised chenille beside a lamb with a floral wreath around its neck, the sky and the head and arms of the figure are painted, the picture is framed in embroidered vine pattern with metal spangles, with a blue and white bow beneath, and a floral garland above suspended on the right and left and in the center with bow ties; stitches include satin, outline, couching and knots.

Helen Sargent Hitchcock, who had studied painting at the Art Students League, founded the Art Workers Club for Women in 1898 and the Art Alliance of America in 1914.
