John Mix's Museum in New Haven offered to the visitor an assorted variety of exhibits which are described in a fourteen-pate catalog issued in 1812, shortly before the de Neuvilles' visit. The "curiosities" to be seen included wax figures "as large as life," paintings, beasts, birds, fishes, serpents, and reptiles. The museum catalog cits the following description among the listing of wax figures: "An Indian, returning from hunting, in his Bark Canoe, with his Game."

In 1951 Kennedy and Co., New York City, owned a watercolor (7 x 12 3/8 in.) by the baroness inscribed: "Morice ville, Juillet 1809." The Society's study is dated from this view. It could well be that the Morice Ville of the baroness was Morrisville in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, where the de Neuvilles' good friend, General Jean Victor Marie Moreau (1763-1813) of New York, also an exile from Napoleonic France, purchased a country estate.
