On January 24, 1816, Baron Hyde de Neuville was apponted minister plenipotentiary to the United States by King Louis XVIII of France. The baron and baroness sailed for America on board the frigate Eurydice, and this charming sketch by the baroness represents the new minister in his berth, with the Bourbon fleur-de-lis on the windows of the stateroom.
