This watercolor portrait of frontiersman "Davy" Crockett was the basis of an engraving by Asher B. Durand, an impression of which is owned by the Society. Correspondence between De Rose and Durand indicates that the former painted the subject from life in Washington in June, 1834 (letters in Archives of American Art).
