This dark blue box holds a glass inkwell. A paper label on the box top reads "Oliver's Patent Inkstand/ Improved and Perfected, 1866." with long and detailed directions on filling and cleaning the well as well as replacing the metal ring and filter seal on the top. The glass inkwell has twelve facets, separate openings for filling the well and dipping the pen and is embossed with the maker and patent date.
