This street sign was retrieved by the donor where it had fallen from its post at the corner of Christopher Street and 7th Avenue, near Sheridan Square. Greenwich Village Historic District was officially dedicated in 1969. Christopher Street was the site of the 1969 Stonewall Rebellion, widely regarded as having launched the gay rights movement.
