Lucy Work (1842-1934) was the daughter of Frank Work and Ellen (Wood) Work. Her father was a wealthy merchant and financier from Ohio. She married Dr. Hewitt in New York in 1887, but they were divorced in 1918. Dr. Hewitt, a scientist and electrical inventor, and the grandson of Peter Cooper, died in 1921; he was the son of Abram Stevens Hewitt (d. 1903), a U.S. congressman and mayor of New York.
