The dating of the tea service to 1815-1820 derives from the years Hyde & Nevins are listed in the City directories. William B. Heyer working life extends from 1798 to 1828, thus the mid-career dating. It was believed to be owned by Major-General William Alexander Stirling (1726-1783), but this provenance is incompatible with the dating of the object.

This compotier was awarded to Lena Cadwalader Evans (1873-1955) by the Blizzard Men of 1888 for the poignant recounting of her girlhood experience during the infamous blizzard of 1888, a blinding snowstorm with powerful gales that paralyzed the city for days. From 1929 until at least 1941, the club met each year around March 12, the storm's anniversary, to dine and reminisce about the storm. The program for the 1939 luncheon announced that a "handsome solid silver cup, suitably engraved" would be awarded for the "best authentic story of his or her experience" during the blizzard, an annual tradition since the club's founding ten years earlier.
