Description:
Wooden hooking frame consisting of four members tenoned together; horizontal cross members have circular holes punched through at regular intervals; vertical members have circular holes at tenon locations; section of burlap nailed to frame; printed mark on burlap indicates it was a re-used wheat sack.

Sewing machine atop walnut cabinet with ornamented lobed corners and hinged cover; machine compartment with storage box with hinged lid in front and a small, square drawer in each back corner; cabinet with two front drawers with arched panels; drive shaft with a pair of foot pedals below, and four vertically aligned square drawers at proper right inside cabinet.

Cardboard box in the shape of a chair, covered in fabric printed with scene of three children (one in bridal costume, others in eighteenth-century dress, boy holding cane) on high back, with central couple repeated on seat and one arm, other arm and sides of base covered with fabric printed with flowers and arch, in brown and white on blue ground; padded seat lifts up to reveal interior of box, also covered in fabric.

This object was once part of the folk art collection of Elie Nadelman (1882-1946), the avant-garde sculptor. From 1924 to 1934, Nadelman's collection was displayed in his Museum of Folk Arts, located in the Riverdale section of the Bronx. The Historical Society purchased Nadelman's entire collection in 1937.
