This month at Sunday Story Time we are learning about artists who lived in New York. Keith Haring was one the most famous artists in New York City. Wherever he was, he always had a pencil in his hand and was constantly drawing.  As we read Keith Haring: The Boy Who Just Kept Drawing we will learn about how Keith because such a well-known artist!  Afterwards we will create puppets similar to the figures in his artwork.

Mary Blair was a Disney artist who used the most unique and daring colors to tell stories and create magic!  As we read Pocket Full of Color we will understand how Mary saw the world in a variety hues and shades.  Because Mary created magic when she illustrated, as a craft we will be creating our own colorful fairy tale illustrations!

This month at Sunday Story Time we are learning about artists who lived in New York. Jean-Michel Basquiat, born in Brooklyn, was a collage artist and painter. As we read Radiant Child we will learn about how Jean-Michel created art that wasn’t necessarily neat or clean but was always beautiful.  After, we will create our own collages.

Georgia O’Keefe was known for her colorful flowers and New York and New Mexico landscapes.  As we read Through Georgia’s Eyes we will learn about Georgia’s childhood and what influenced her to be an artist.  Afterward we will create pop-up flowers from paper that are a bright and colorful like Georgia O’Keefe’s work.

Sundays are for walks in the park, lazy brunches, and museums!  At Sunday Story Time this week we will read One Sunday Morning to discover what Minho and his father explore on during their day in the park.  After the reading, children will create a puppet of one the things Minho sees while in the park! I wonder what it will be!
